Eagles-Saints Recap: A Win That Hurts So Good

It might be November, but the Philadelphia Eagles (5-6) and New Orleans Saints (5-5) both brought the heat early Sunday afternoon. Philadelphia beat New Orleans, 40-29. Jalen Hurts had a star performance, with 13-for-24 completions for 147 yards, and three touchdowns, and the Eagles defense executed in the very best way.

It was a slow start for both teams, going three-and-out in their first possessions. Then the Saints fumbled the ball, and Eagles linebacker TJ Edwards recovered the ball to get it right back to the Eagles for their first touchdown.

The Eagles went on to score on their next drive, thanks to the help of Maddox reading the Saints offense left and right. Having a career high 14 points in just the first quarter set the Eagles up for success.

At the top of the second half, the Saints defense gained some momentum after a fumble from Sanders, Eagles running back who recently came back from an ankle injury in Week 7 against the Raiders. The Saints marched down the field for the touchdown from the Eagles fumble.

Before the end of the first half, Eagles’ cornerback Darius Slay picked off Saints backup, Trevor Sieman, for a 51-yard touchdown.

Philadelphia came out striking in the second half, coming off of that momentum from the defensive touchdown. The team put up two field goals, but was not able to do much of anything else thanks to the Saints defense.

Early in the fourth quarter, New Orleans started making a comeback with Slay out of the game. The team scored two touchdowns in two minutes, missing a two-point conversion and an extra point.

With 15 unanswered points by the Saints, the Eagles drove down the field doing what has been working for them all day. On a third-and-six, Hurts found an opening to run all the way for a touchdown to further their lead. The Saints scored a touchdown with seconds to go, but it was not enough for a comeback.

The Philadelphia Eagles will move on to improve their chances at a playoff spot, with their last five of six games being in the NFC East.

Next week, the Eagles are on the road against the New York Giants (3-6).
